Safety Guidance for MoD Personnel

The minister stated that the MoD is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, however stressed that security is a concern in every contemporary cars.

We have a collection of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
However whether you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug Ministry of Defence technology into their car, to avoid having conversations at a secret level in any car, because of the increasing threats of eavesdropping that exist in every single automobile, to restrict those secret talks in protected areas. This is a wise and sensible thing for everyone worried about security.

When it was suggested that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using all cars from China, Pollard replied: That is precisely what we are looking into at the moment.”

This announcement comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could allow the Chinese government to disable public transport and cause disruption to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship has been shining laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.
