2K Recruits Apex Legends Lead to Revitalize Challenged Action Game Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Follows Mixed Feedback

Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure informed staff about this decision through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a clearer vision.

Ismailer stated that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to address community desires.

Trend of Strategic Recruitment

The news mirrors a similar action taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the full message from the president's communication:

Dear Team—

I know you all just completed your town hall - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative developers we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to endure.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was informative. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the need for a clearer brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the input to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s poised to deliver on its promise to our audience.

The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To advance the remarkable development you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Director of 31st Union. Following several months of talks, he starts with us on next week.

His guidance and experience in the competitive gaming space is vast, having devoted the past decade and a half producing and managing some of the most well-known series in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in welcoming Ben next week. We are all eager to continue witnessing the progress of Project ETHOS in the months to come.

Background of the New Head

The appointee presently serves in the role of senior developer and production lead at the renowned studio for their flagship title. He earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in diverse production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, before that, had stints at other industry leaders.

Game Details and Vision

The upcoming game was revealed in last year in conjunction with a community playtest. Initially, 31st Union presented the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the official summary states. "Take on the opponents with unique powers, risks, and tests that change every match. Will you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively take a risk, risk it all, and pray your team can secure victory? The decision is yours."

Project Ethos lacks an announced debut schedule or platforms, but players can expect more updates as development advances.
